Somerton Baptist Church was established in 1954 and worshiped in a hall seating about 120 people, which was the first building on the property. In addition to Christian Education and sport for children and young people, there was a significant ministry to the aged and a tradition of strong support for Australian and overseas missions developed. In 2000, a new worship centre seating about 200 was built and the work of the church continued to grow until, by 2006, future accommodation became a matter of concern.
