Somerton Baptist Church was established in 1954 and worshiped in a hall seating
about 120 people, which was the first building on the property. In addition to
Christian Education and sport for children and young people, there was a significant
ministry to the aged and a tradition of strong support for Australian and overseas
missions developed. In 2000, a new worship centre seating about 200 was built and
the work of the church continued to grow until, by 2006, future accommodation became
a matter of concern. Camden Community Baptist Church was commenced in 1928 as the Plympton Baptist Church sponsored by Goodwood Baptist Church. In about 1977 it moved into the Camden Primary School and then into the present premises in Carlton Road in about 1982. These latter premises were originally owned by St. Swithen's Anglican Church. Holdfast Baptist Church was formed in July 2007, with the merger of two churches: Somerton Baptist Church and Camden Park Baptist Church. |
